Not even worth trying... Glad that it pulled of the store.
24 December 2012
I've been setting up a few Windows 8 Systems this holiday weekend only to discover the app has been pulled, it won't even come up in a search. No Information via any of Splashtops communications channels (website, twitter, support forums, etc..). Highly annoying considering that I did actually pay for this app.
17 December 2012
Waiting forever for these guys to re release the metro app, and the desktop app doesn't work. Come on guys.
16 December 2012
If the point of this application is to control a desktop PC via a Windows 8 tablet then the first try is a disappointing FAIL. Last I checked EVERY iPad and Android tablet is ARM based. Also the last time I checked my ARM based Surface RT is a Windows 8 device. My review could easily change by simply adding ARM support for the Win8 client.
14 November 2012
I just tried to download it from MS app store and when i click on "install" it now tells me that its no longer available. I had it installed originally, so I know it works....was it removed?
8 November 2012
Cannot connect to any machine, be it local or internet. Crashes occasionally when trying to do so, other times it just fails and asks you to put in the security code for the PC you're trying to connect to. The IOS clients work fine, and look to be honestly miles ahead in functionality.
7 November 2012
Since it does not allow gmail integration, it really isn't that useful. Once they add gmail, I am sure it will take off.
6 November 2012
But I'm not sure why they would release it at all in this state. The most basic of functionality is not there. Once they enable internet discovery I'm sure the app will be infinitely more usable.
Update: Still no support for Splashtop account or internet discovery. What's the point?
3 November 2012
It connects and I can see the desktop...Finally figured out how to minimize the keyboard. Lots of sound and screen corruption, but it is getting better.
2 November 2012
doesn't support ARM
30 October 2012
Works so-so on Android devices but the Streamer service on all my computers crash when this app tries to connect.
30 October 2012
Cant wait for it to come to the M$ Surface
29 October 2012
Looks good but won't minimize keyboard or access any controls from win 8 app to win 7 desktop
27 October 2012
When I tried to connect to a computer running the streamer, I put in the password and then just get a blank screen and it eventually crashes.
27 October 2012
I'm not sure if this app is supposed to do anything? I have used splashtop before and loved it but this app is just a big screen of static text and only half the text (the left side) is actually showing so I have no idea what it says.
24 October 2012
As of this version you cannot login to you spashtop account, you cannot enter your computer's hostname - you must know your computer's IP address, and you cannot login to a splashtop without a security code. Until the first issue, or both of the second issue is resolved, I cannot use this app.
18 October 2012
I'm very interested in the development of this app. It works surprisingly well on my test setup (windows 8 32bit running on a laptop with a intel core 2 duo 2.4ghz processor, 3 gbs of ram, ati HD2300 graphics connecting to a core i5 OC4.6ghz windows 7 64bit desktop with 8gb ram, ssd, ati 6970 graphics). Was even able to get into some games like portal 2 and move around, albeit, not very well. I look forward to more stable releases, and an ARM version I can use with an MS Surface RT.
28 September 2012
I am on my front porch swing typing this on my kindle fire while controlling my win 8 home theater pc upstairs. while I cannot watch media center and operate splashtop concurrently via remote like this , everything else is slick. I do wish all of the win 8 gestures were available but a remote mouse is useable in track pad mode. far better that a media remote.
26 September 2012
With Splashtop for Windows 7 or Android, I am able to log in with my gmail address and see the PC's I have access to. Don't see that option at all with this version and thus, it is unusable to me.
20 September 2012
I have Splashtop on my Android and iOS devices and love it on them, No complaints. But this "Metro App" only connects half the time and can't stay connected for more than 8 min. If they can push a more stabilized and polished application in an update, I would be happy to change my rating.
16 September 2012
Says it can be repaired but it won't ever load.
1 September 2012
Claims it's broken and can be repaired. Repair button does nothing. Too bad, works fine on Android.
29 August 2012
It's black..I can't add new connect, because the IP is wrong
29 August 2012
Could get nothing but a black static screen too bad works good on andiod with splashtop2 but this app for windows 8 is broken please release the second one
27 August 2012
I couldn't get this app to work, unfortunately..
25 August 2012
As always Splashtop does a great job. But I feel the app is lacking in terms of customization in terms of lowering or raising settings for better or worse bandwidth. If it is there it is not easily accessible because I have yet to find it.
21 August 2012
On top of only being usable within a LAN, Splashtop seems to have removed the original .exe file from their website. Good job guys.
20 August 2012
The application currently only supports the features of Splashtop 1, without the additional mechanism to discover machines through the internet using Google login.
This makes it essentially pointless to connect to a PC, since it can only access machines through the network; at that point you may as well just use Remote Desktop by Microsoft.
That said, if you need remote access to a Mac on your LAN, this is probably decent.
16 August 2012
This app does not work for me at all. The main window is not even displayed correctly. I've had a solid experience with other Splashtop products, so I am quite surprised and disappointed.
11 August 2012
After happily using splashtop on android and webos, I am quite disappointed with the win 8 implementation
