As a paid user of Dropbox, this app disappoints. Pros: the app connects to your account. Cons: everything else. The app is like visiting my files in a zoo: I can look but no touching! Can't delete files. Also, the view defaults to alphabetical; can't change to time view to see recently added files. If Dropbox were free, this app would still be unacceptable. As a paid user, this is a serious hindrance. Please fix ASAP.

If you actually want to sync your files, give this app a pass and download the regular app on the Dropbox web site. This is a metro app, but functionally it's the same as their mobile apps, which means you can download/preview individual files, but not sync your entire Dropbox. I guess this provides a sharing endpoint to the rest of the system which is nice, but this is far from the standard Dropbox experience you are probably used to.
25 October 2013
This app is much better than it used to be. I am now able to upload, download, move and manage all my files. I am happy that Dropbox finally fixed their app.
16 January 2013
It is a very basic windows 8 app just showing the files you have already uploaded and nothing else. Still missing a lot of basic features. They should develop more features before releasing this application.
20 August 2013
I like the new interface and the ability to easily upload and download files now BUT not giving 5 stars because I want to be able to send files from my desktop directly to dropbox instead of saving it first. It should also be an option to save to in word2013 just like skydrive
8 January 2013
you can't do anything with the files except open them for viewing or playback. you can't download them. you can't upload. you can't delete. you can't move files around.
17 February 2014
Dropbox is amazing, and this app is great for exploring your files. Also, it does not actually take up any space on your hard drive, which may be a large plus for many users, especially tablet users.
Personally, I prefer the traditional desktop download, which keeps a folder on your hard drive, with all of your files synced to it. No need to download or upload files manually
11 January 2013
Maybe I'm using it wrong? But it doesn't seem able to actually download anything, which kinda defeats 50% of the purpose of this app. I right-click to highlight a file, and it shows off the checkmark, so I expect the app bar to pop up or something, but nothing happens. It doesn't even seem able to upload anything, which defeats the other 50%. This app is more like a browser than an actual Dropbox client. I understand we can't have everything in the first go, but at least get the basics right.
29 March 2015
For whatever reason, this app does not open the shared file. It opens a read-only copy with a separate name...which is pretty useless for a collaborative file sharing solution, when you think about it. I downloaded the program from Dropbox, which works like a charm. Don't bother with this app.
7 January 2013
I love dropbox, I really do. But I can't share links to not built in apps (Such as gmail). I can't move folders around, it just has no options or settings to make it as useful as say the Android or IOS equivalent.
16 April 2015
This is the phone app--you can see your files and you can open them with whatever you have onboard. This is not the computer version--you cannot save them to your Dropbox and have them automatically sync. Go to the Dropbox website and download it from there. It won't show up as a shiny app on 8.1 but it will show up in your documents/computer foldering so you can have the automatic syncing.
5 February 2015
EXTREMELY SLOW UPLOADS AND FILE MANAGMENT. Most of the time the app just sits there doing nothing. It freezes up with no error messages so you think it's working when it really isn't. Download a file -FAILS. Open a file - FAILS. Move a file - FAILS. Upload File - nothing happens. We could do more back in the 80's sending text commands over the internet than the functions this app has built into it now. Almost zero integration with windows. Extremely rudimentary program with almost no useful (or working) functions. No password protection so anyone that picks up your computer can read, send or delete all your files. You can't do ANYTHING with your files within this app. I emailed support and got a canned response about getting too many emails to reply. Pretty much saying; "this is it and you're on your own." I'll look elsewhere for my cloud storage.
23 May 2015
Horrible update taking away landscape viewing. Hey dropbox people don't use portrait view only on tablets. So don't force my viewing mode.
30 July 2013
I use Dropbox on MacOS, iOS, Android and Win7 without any problems. This implementation is below expectations. It is not intuitive: I cannot figure out where the files are. All Micrososft Office documents cannot be opened. Useless... Too bad. Please fix this!!
28 January 2015
Update-01/27/15-User interface went from bad to worse. All useful information is jammed into LH 1/3 of screen. RH 2/3 of screen is totally unused. Status of account used to show percentage bar of space used. Now it shows bytes used, and bytes total. Percentage was more useful.
Single left clicking on a file immediately attempts to open it, usually followed by a loooooong search for a program to open it with. Then it times out and fails.
The long established user interface is left clicking to select an item, double click if you want to open it.
Also, the text and format of the display is far to large, and you cannot fully identify a file. You could have copies of the same file, from different backups, but you can't tell which is which because you cannot see the full details of the file, such as the DATE the file was created or changed.
21 May 2015
I just updated the app and now it wont even open.
15 January 2013
I've used Dropbox on my iPhone, PC, OS X, and Ubuntu and this is the first I didn't like. You can select files but can't do anything with them. Text files don't open inline. Even simple HTML or MD files. You can't upload or sync or even download. Why even release this? I get release early and release often, but man, this early?
11 July 2013
Why allow me to OPEN a file from Dropbox, but not SAVE IT to Dropbox? This is so insane and so contradictory to the Dropbox brand that I can't even understand why this app exists. Of course, I can open a file then save it locally or to SkyDrive... But obviously that is not what I want to do if I'm using Dropbox. I use Dropbox at work and so this lame app renders my Surface INSTANTLY USELESS as a work machine.
16 June 2013
This app is completely half-baked. It doesn't follow Win 8 standards and will not allow you to sort, filter, download.......just view. If l'm missing something then they've still done it wrong.
I've just deleted it in favor of "All Clouds".
16 January 2013
This is fine, but it needs the ability to synch files after you edit. Otherwise, it's not all that helpful.
3 March 2015
In desktop version we can directly upload files to dropbox by 'right click->send to dropbox' option. But in app version to desktop we can't directly upload the files i.e. we have to open the app then have to upload. Please provide a direct option to make it easier. Great work Dropbox.
1 June 2013
Randomly the app won't log me in. Fix it please.
20 May 2013
Thought I could actually manage my drop box with this app, and download files to my desktop. But this app is just a viewer, and therefore isn't what I was needing. Back to the desktop version ...
5 February 2015
Can't download to the computer. Can't save to the computer. Never saw a dropbox folder Windows Explorer. What a horrible "app". To download I had to login to dropbox through my web browser so why bother wasting space on my hard drive with the app? the Windows 8 version is completely useless unless I want to share a link. And I don't: I want to get some files of my dropbox. Useless useless useless.
23 January 2015
Just opens to a black screen. I am using the windows 10 technical preview... is that causing the issue?
17 September 2013
I was expecting something equivalent to the Win 7 Dropbox app but this app is basically the Dropbox website.
It does not set up a local dropbox folder and so you can't save/sync.
8 July 2013
I think the Dropbox developers really need to give the surface a chance and flesh this out as thoroughly as the have the Ipad/iPhone versions. I can't upload files and this is some basic functionality that really should be there
28 March 2013
This app allows me to see my files, but not actually do anything with them? I can load a photo, but I can't save it to my tablet for use. What's the point of this app then? It's a...Dropbox viewer? I appreciate first-party support, but man, this is really painful to use. Or not use on this case, because it doesn't actually do anything useful.
26 January 2013
Needs:
File downloading
Multiple File Select
File Options
Options
This app is pretty much worthless in its current form.
26 January 2013
I rely heavily on Dropbox across multiple platforms, and this app underperforms all of their apps. I can't save a file to my hard drive, can't upload photos. And because of RT deep freeze, I can't use it in File Manager like I'm used to. Sorely disappointed!
