I LOVE so much about News Republic, but... it does currently have a problem where it quits and closes on its own randomly while I'm trying to read an article. I contacted them and they responded rather quickly, and explained the problem is with an external SDK which the developer is working to correct. I can't fault them for that, and I am impressed by their responsiveness. It's such a great app, I plan to continue using it regularly once the issue is corrected. Unless I'm crazy, though, the HP edition of News Republic seems stable. so I'm running with that version for now.

WI click on the live tile it should take me directly to the story displayed on the live tile

I installed this "news" app and went through a number of articles. You get where the source, but not the author of the articles. I also read a "news" story that was CLEARLY nothing but an opinion piece. I'm looking for a news article compiler - not another blog/RSS feed. Needs better source filtering - or is it just that opinion pieces are now considered equal to "news"?
I chose one star, because I can't choose no stars and submit the review.
19 May 2014
Very annoying as you are reading an article and the app closes on yoū
16 May 2014
When reading this publication, the app will just stop and disappear - when it wants to. It could be the 4th article or the 40th, it doesn't matter when or where, it just disappears.

Asked to rate this App and can honestly say this is the best non-biased chock full of actual important up to date information daily of what is happening in the world!
Very glad this App was available and free. great.
21 May 2014
Good idea, I don't have to browse through all my news sites on my browser anymore. The app looks very nice and clean. BUT the constant crashing, when it happens is random but it ALWAYS crashes.
15 November 2012
Good software, stable, responsive and pleasantly navigable. As news content aggregator, it could use more actual news sources and less leftist polemic garbage such as Business Insider in its Top Stories lineup.
22 September 2013
But it has never worked on Windows 8, it errors out when opening with an error message that it can't connect to their servers. The Android and iOS versions connect just fine over the same network.
12 April 2013
Enjoy this app, for the detailed news and the ability to search on any topic.

No links to read the article on the original site.

Best design

The old layout was awesome this one is unlookable. The font sucks, please how can I downgrade?
2 January 2013
Bummer on Surface RT
1 January 2013
It rocks
31 December 2012
Good app, but most of the sources are British and have a very liberal point of view. It is not balanced in terms of the news sources. Good lay out and works well.
21 December 2012
Why can't I search for my own sources? How about linking my Google Reader account?
11 December 2012
smooth app-machine interfacing. Simple UI. love it
10 December 2012
Much smoother n responsive compared to the default news app. Better than news bento in those two areas as well in my experience
4 December 2012
I've been using News Republic across several devices and I love it. I use it to keep up with news across all my interests, as well as "breaking" news, and I like the ability to track that topic for updates as time goes on. I'd like to see a little less reliance (or apparent reliance) on Business Insider, but that's a fairly minor nit. I'd like to see support for more customization of topics and news sites.

vertical scroll, horizontal scroll....on same page, content is cut on the right....bad design, VERY bad design!
5 October 2012
As soon as I try to open sth. App crashes
2 October 2012
I've tried a few of the news readers and this one chews up less memory and has the best selection for a non-rss feed reader. I hope a future release makes the icon start flipping on the home screen.
7 August 2012
the app is very buggy. it crashes all the time!
11 January 2015
Setting up my screen on the windows 8.1 version of this is very frustrating. They won't go where I put them and I allowed myself to become annoyed by it....
17 September 2014
well organized, with excellent Variety on news

If you want your news from the yellow rag called the Huffington Post... this app is for you. If you like to see both sides of a story, you definitely need a different app. I suggest 360 News. You can pick and choose what news you want and aren't a slave to just the news agenda that a small group wants to present to you.
20 November 2013
I enjoy this app because it gives the user the ability to choose from different news sources and, which of these sources to receive notifications from.
The notifications appear in a small pane to the right of your desktop and has an image and short description of the article.
One thing I do not like is that the panes are too close to the corner and make the search pane appear.
Besides that, however, I enjoy the overall convenience of this app.
