I love this app, I only have one problem: it doesn't do layers! The Sketchbook Express on an iPad or Android device does at least 2or 3 layers, where is the love for Windows 8?
19 August 2013
I use this ap nearly every single day and the lack of a save as option is killing me!????
Please please fix asap! This ap is why I have my eslate!
Days later... do we have an ETA on a fix please please please
Weeks later now, please update! Its makes me so sad to check the store each day and not see an update
Months later now....still no update. Look at how many people you're upsetting. Please fix this already. I refuse to purchase "pro" till its fixed.

While I love this app with all of its variety in colors and tools, I frequently find the menu refusing to work, making me lose hours of work because the thing save button is inaccessible 80% of the time. If the developers were to fix this issue, I would change my rating to five stars.
29 January 2015
I'm an artist who's been drawing my whole life. I'm currently employed as a graphic designer, and on the side, illustrating a graphic novel. This app on my Surface Pro 3 is the perfect app. It has layers, I can import photos, and save to TIFF, JPEG, PSD, and PNG files. Awesome. Photoshop is very powerful, but it is also super cluttered. I signed up for the Pro version of this app and messed around with the different brushes, and I am super impressed. Cannot wait to dive in and get some stuff drawn.
26 May 2013
UPDATE: There are still persistent ads for the Pro version (which is desktop only). Options that used to be available quickly in the "lagoon" ui, now require the swipe up gesture. No more naming save files. No more dedicated save button either. My favorite tool, the pencil, is no longer great. Pressure sensitivity no longer effects its width, and doesn't get as dark or as light as before. Paint brush still isn't pressure sensitive. Only plus: opacity control on marker and brush now available.
31 January 2015
Just a quick note since some reviewers are confused, this does have layers & more features, you just have to sign up for an account. They also combined the "Express" and "Pro" versions into one, you just have to subscribe for a fee to unlock the full pro features. The biggest drawback of the app though is that you can ONLY save to your pictures library. Trying to save to documents or anywhere else comes up as you don't have permission. Also, the selection tool is missing at least from the free version, don't know about pro. Floodfill being pro only also seems ridiculous. Otherwise, it appears to have everything the desktop version has in a fresh, modern layout. The doubletap shortcuts would be better if they were customizable, since they come in handy when you have the interface hidden while drawing. Could use an intro tutorial as some features are oddly located/not obvious, and users not already familiar with the program might have trouble getting started or miss key features.
22 January 2015
This app is missing way too many things to work properly.
Unavailable:
Layers
Size and opacity
Pen only mode
Exporting/Saving options
These are what I have encountered using the Surface Pro 3. What's disappointing is that there was actually pen sensitivity, but if I can't control more options for it, it's not very useful. The settings also didn't have many options either.

Brilliant sketchbook app-- big thanks to Autodesk for this terrific showpiece!
31 January 2015
**** that.
20 April 2015
Great app, but I'd like for Autodesk to release the pro version, like on iOS and Android. Also needs layers.
18 April 2015
So apparently this just updated and I finally found out a way to draw something I've always wanted to draw on here right after it updated. The second I finished my basic guidelines I went to add another only to see they are gone.
Why did you take the layers out.
I will only write a good review if there are layers.
29 June 2013
Considering it's free, it's not bad at all! I use it primarily as a sketchbook, and that's it. Not very handy for painting, but if you just want to crank out a quick sketch, this has all you need.
You CAN save in this version, it just doesn't let you choose where to save or what resolution/file type to save at. However, it is a pain. You have to start a new drawing in order for it to ask you if you want to save your current one. You can then import the image into another program if you want.
11 April 2015
The program is fine for a quick sketch, but that's about it. It's missing some basic tools that any drawing program should have as a standard. No selection/lasso-tool is my biggest gripe. While it's possible to approximate the effect by duplicating a layer an erasing like a looney, that's not very user friendly. To add insult to injury, useful stuff like blending layers and the fill-tool(!) are behind a subscription paywall. If it wasn't pretty much the only game in town, I wouldn't use it at all.
29 December 2012
This is a stripped down version of Sketchbook Pro. Its great for sketches and takes advantage of a tablet (using it on a Vivotab TF810C). Unfortunately in comparison to the the full pro version this lacks some pretty important features, like layers, but is tailored for tablets allowing you to pan around and zoom with touch gestures, which the pro version does not recognize. Anyways I've found this to be my favorite free drawing app, at least for now. Hopefully they'll add more features.
25 May 2013
"Save as" option is missing from earlier version, and the Import Image function will over write your open drawing even if it is saved. Lost 3 hours of work with that one. Please being back the save as option.
Otherwise simple and useful.
20 March 2013
I'm waiting for full multi-touch support for the pro version, Autodesk deliberately disabled this function for the tablet pc...!!! works only on the 3700 $ Wacom cintique
28 December 2012
good app but the one for android is better. would be an awesome app and would give 5 stars if it just had layers!!!!!!!! Would even pay for it
29 June 2013
It would be good if there was touch moving/zoom when there is a pen. The pen should be the only thing that can draw when it is present. Layers are needed. More pens are needed. Good start to a conversion of the desktop app that is almost useless on a pen tablet
13 January 2013
The best drawing expediente with vivo tab, pen pressure works great.
7 August 2013
We want Sketchbook pro and Ink on Windows 8 rt!!!!!!!!!!!
4 August 2013
it would be nice if the crosshairs of the cursor pointer would line up with what a person was trying to draw and the further you move the cursor pointer down the screen the worse it gets out of alignment , but like most apps its just another cheap nasty program
5 February 2013
I loved this app on my Iphone but it is so much better here! Waiting for Autodesk to push out all of the other mobile apps!
26 May 2013
Why in the world was it changed with this gallery that you have to import things to? It was way smoother to be able to use it the way before. also, where is the save button? I have to threaten to leave my project before it asks to save and I can't even name the files!? Guess what, I drew something important on their right when it updated and I SAVED this file, then when I tried to import some of my files my original file DISAPPEARED. Thanks a LOT. Give me the save button back!
6 April 2013
I had been using this app and I really like it, but it is missing so many tools, so I guess there must be a pro version of this, just like in other platforms. Plz bring Sketchbook pro to windows RT!!!!
18 February 2013
I have enjoyed the Sketchbook series since buying it on my iPad to my Android devices now to my Surface Pro. No ability to add layers seriously cripples your imagination. Can we please get a paid pro version in the Windows appstore?
Very good for quick doodles to serious drawings.
12 February 2013
I'm not usually into this type of app, but I'm having a lot of fun with this one. Great for doodling in class 😉. Thank you!
11 February 2013
Great free drawing app! Best that I know of in the app store. But, where is the Pro version??? I want to upgrade and don't want to run it as a desktop app. Please?
30 January 2013
So it's useless on my Lenovo Ideapad Yoga when using it in "tent mode". When I open it, it turns the screen upside down.
19 October 2013
MISSING:
- save as option
- print option (through Windows devices like other app)
- palm rejection (like S-Note app)
- snap to 100% zoom (after zooming in this app it's almost impossible to get back to 100%)
Get two of the above done and I'll be happy to give it 5 stars.
