Comments for Skype

Too many features missing to be a suitable Skype desktop app replacement. Features that are missing: - screen sharing - file sharing - IM message editing - windowed version (especially important if your resolution is not high enough to support Snap) One other major flaw is that when you press the escape key, it ends the call. Most applications ESC is used to go to the previous window. I hung up on someone 3-4 times because of this.

Skype for Windows 8 really needs a log out option... I have a personal and a business account, and I do not know how to maintain them both without using two devices...

Why is it impossible to log out and why did Microsoft had to bind Skype account with it? I accidently login to old Skype id and I can't log out!!!

No file sending, no screen sharing, no group calls, no voice mail, doesn't ring reliably, terrible delay, frequent dropped calls, closes for no reason, forces Microsoft account integration, cannot be turned off, and let's not forget NO VOLUME CONTROL. Looks pretty though... Edit: Thanks for the last update! Now I have to have Skype focused at all times in order for it to work. The moment I access the start screen it freezes my webcam and mutes Skype on both ends of the call. Great work!

Since I got win 8 this app has never worked. If running in the background it will not notify of incoming calls and it shows me offline. Even though all notifications and permissions are set to allow. This appears to be a problem lots of people are having for a long time and yet no fix. What gives.

Great but still need some features such as screen sharing and file sharing...

When did Skype start charging? They advertise Free Calling and then when you try to use Skype, you get an error message that you don't have enough credits and want to charge you 2.3 cents/minute - minimum charge of $10. No thank you and will find a video chat that is truly free.

Being a first-party developer, I expected Skype to have a flawless Windows 8.1 app, leading the pack in messaging apps for the Windows Store. It seems that I had expected too much. Skype on Modern Windows pales in comparison to its desktop counterpart, with a widespread lack of features and compatibilities. Some of these are features being rolled out, like the new photo sharing, while others are rather mind-boggling, like being able to customize notification sounds, or see when someone is Away or Busy, let alone set those statuses for yourself. Profile editing is also weak, requiring either the Skype Web site or the desktop app for editing of things like a bio. Group chats perform particularly poorly, with this version being unable to initiate a group call, audio or video, and suffering from frequent chat desynchronization and disobedient notification settings. This app is okay, but doesn't feel like an official app, and needs to be worked on further.

The program is barely useable some days, the call quality never stays constant, it is nearly impossible to deal with the UI bugs like being unable to add people to the call if it is already started sometimes or the delayed reaction of clicking the icons. But it's free and there aren't a lot of choice so you'll have to make due.

The so called new Skype is terrible, desktop version doesn't work with windows 8.1. Leave it to Microsoft to take a program that works and ruin it.

It FINALLY supports message editing or deletion (but with a teensy widdle button and NOT on /me messages), earning it back a star. It only supports Online and Invisible statuses (Never shows a contact as "Away" or "DnD", but instead just shows them as offline). Doesn't easily let you see or change your status (so you might be Invisible for a week and not know it) Uses the wrong emote for :I and :3 Puts WAY too much whitespace in copy-pasted conversations Aggressively autocorrects, to the point that words in my dictionary (like "boop") are changed (to "bop" or "hoop"). There's no way to change sounds. There's no way to change fonts.

Latest update has horrible UI. For some reason the contacts are now all smashed into one tall thin strip that uses a scroll bar to navigate. What is that about? Did the development team think they were updating the phone app or something? Windows 8.1 on Desktop here. I loved Windows 8 at first but as time goes on I'm starting to think an all-in-one OS for Tablets and Desktops is a really dumb idea......

The Modern Skype app for windows 8.1 is fluid, smooth, and does the basic features you'd expect from Skype. But if you're expecting to be able to do anything beyond a simple Skype call good luck. You can't view images in the chat, you can't screen share, it doesn't show you who's actively talking like how the desktop version does. You'd think Microsoft would have put more work into this app seeing how they're trying to push Windows 8 so hard. I mean really don't even waste your time if you're a power user this is basically Skype lite.

Would be nice if the Modern App supported screen sharing. Desktop app way better. Seems to be a common theme with Modern apps in that desktop apps are almost always better.

Well, well, I didn't know that the Skype App that comes with windows 8.1 is just the Windows Skype app; Skype has not discontinues its desktop, full-version VOIP client. Thank God! I had been furious with Skype for making the application so bare-bones, so featureless, that it is almost worthless. Now I know better: the native Windows 8.1 Skype app is just a convenient utility for making calls. You actually need the desktop version to fully unleash all of Skype's potentials.

why all the accounts?????????? I don't want more accounts ! And, I would like the old "chat" box with choice of favorites recent all in that MANAGEBLE box instead of allllll those contacts taking up the whole page. I know you probably don't read this , but I tried

This app is not as user friendly!! Both this app and the desktop version are too limited with the user controls. Worse, there is basically no documentation for this app, a general problem I have with all the Windows 8 apps. Although I use Skype quite often, I feel uncomfortable with the permissions granted to it. Lastly, this app now shows ads which is very annoying. I would prefer paid apps that do not include ads.

I think it is ridiculous that you have to have a Microsoft email to access this app. I do not want to create a new email nor do I want to merge my accounts. Please let me use the email I choose instead of forcing me to use a Microsoft related email.

They have made the new Skype start page so simple you can't find anything. You need to go to the video training supplied by Skype. To me that is just an indication of poor programming. It's definitely not intuitive or easy unless you take a "class".

would be great if there was a way to use multiple accounts!

Get the desktop version of Skype for now... That's what they call the old look. You can find it on Skype's website, under download. Dedicated Skype app users: you can drag the top of the Skype window (or any window) to the side of your screen, so it fills only a side column. That way you can view the desktop (or whatever) at the same time as the Skype app & eliminate most of that empty space. App doesn't support file transfers yet, so is useless for me. Luv WIN 8. Start screen is nice!!
