I couldn't get this program to work either. So why does Microsoft allow apps in their store that do not work? It looks like this developer put some work into this app. Perhaps Microsoft needs to help them get it finished or take it out of the store. What a disappointment.

Media Center 8 is installed on this Windows 8 system, but this app did absolutely NOTHING. It never showed anything but a blank screen. There are plenty of recorded Media Center shows, but this app did not provide access. Do not buy until they get it working.

I chose the try option, and it never completed updating metabase???? very glad that I did not purchase

I let this run for over an hour and never got past the "updating meta." Very glad I clicked try and not buy.

The very first thing it does when you start up is scan every device and every folder on your entire network with no way to cancel. I have several DLNA devices and hundreds of movies on my network. I waited 10 minutes for it to finish scanning; turned off the screen on my Surface, and the scanning stopped, which would have required a rescan from the start. I never got to see if it could even play back a video file; not sure why the author thought scanning for everything was a good idea.
