Two good things about this player:
1. It actually does save the podcasts locally
2. It doesn't suck as bad as every other windows 8 player I've tried
Only displays recent downloads, even when more are stored on my tablet.
No way to downloadmore than 100 podcasts at a time.. wtf?
Search feature never finds anything
It doesn't crash very often.
Hoping for updates... the software could be so much better with very little effort.
30 March 2015
Tried over and over to search for podcasts and it app returns nothing. It just has a blank screen.
31 December 2014
I use an RSS reader (RSS Bandit by chance) to subscribe to podcasts, and digitalpodcast.com to find podcast URLs. Both are very easy to do. Then I export the OPML file and import it to Podcast Bandit.
I've used a variety of other podcast solutions on multiple platforms and none is as easy to use or complete as this combined solution.
If Podcast Bandit did it all then it would get 5 stars.
Thanks for being part of the solution!
13 December 2014
The search for podcast function doesn't work. App occasionally crashes. Limited customization options. Regrettably there aren't any good Windows 8 podcast apps to be found.
18 June 2014
I use it to grab podcasts, and it works well for that. I primarily use it to fetch podcasts that aren't in the Windows Phone store and podcasts that require authentication. The search doesn't seem to find the podcasts I want, but that is OK because I can manually add them.
One thing that I would greatly appreciate would be syncing of podcasts among my computers. If I add a podcast to Podcast Bandit on my desktop, I have to also manually add it on my Laptop. Even better would be the listen state of each episode, but right now what bugs me the most is not syncing the subscriptions themselves. Isn't this possible through OneDrive? Or even simply maintaining a subscription file at a user specified location, which could be in the OneDrive directory or Dropbox?
29 May 2014
Why can't I search for Podcasts?
23 May 2014
I paid money for this app. It does not work. I've email them and received no response. They pretty much stole my money... don't buy this piece of shit app.
8 May 2014
Better on Surface/Windows 8 Pro than on Windows Phone 8, however still lots of bugs. Seems to crash fairly regularly and randomly stops playing and starts playing different date on its own, this is especially prevalent on Windows Phone.
5 May 2014
Pros: Simple but boring interface, layout is easy to figure out
Cons: Podcasts stop playing for no reason, search feature is terrible
It gets the job done for the most part, but it has quite a few warts to fix up.
I hate the wooden background.
Searches for some common podcasts do not show up though you can manually add your podcasts.
I find that podcasts stop playing for no reason and have to be restarted.
2 April 2014
The search function for adding podcasts no longer works if you are searching by podcast name. I've emailed the author(s) regarding this, but no response after several weeks. THIS IS A PAID APP!
Don't waste your money.
22 January 2014
This application works but crashes often and is not stable. Also it does not have an existing list of podcast categories. It is now crashing during playback. Is intermittent.
17 January 2014
I entered a podcast URL and it quickly displayed the most recent items from that podcast. I clicked one and it started to play the audio but not the video. I stopped and started it several times but no video. I went back to the home page of the app and started it from there and it started playing 2 versions with different time offsets. Next time I started the app it had forgotten how far I had listened previously to the podcast.
3 January 2014
Crashed every time I launched the app and was never able to import my opml file.
13 November 2013
The UI is misleading in several areas, playback stutters frequently, and it crashes 1 out of 3 launches immediately if a download is in progress. Rarely will play through an entire podcast without crashing.
I have also found the thumbnail images sometimes show and other times do not, even on the same subscription.
I do like the fast play feature, and especially the ability to auto-download subscriptions (been searching for that feature for a year), although it doesn't seem to do it in the background like it implies.
Generally this app has a lot of promise, delivery is lacking though for now.
I expect if it is being maintained by the developer it will get better over time. <fingers crossed>
26 October 2013
Adding new podcasts is a breeze because the options menus are automatically popped up, but as a result there is a lot of double clicking/tapping.
Keyboard shortcuts don't work. The scroll wheel would be nice to use. The "Enter" button doesn't work.
When you hit "Play" without downloading an episode it takes A LONG TIME to actually start playing (if it starts at all).
You can navigate the sound file from then Now Playing screen just fine (rewind, fast forward, etc.), but that disappears when you navigate to different parts of the app. You only get pause and fast forward, but this looks like a bug, because the album art is clipped as well.
There is also a lot of clicking. Is there a reason the episode cannot be played in the feed pane and has to be in it's own, separate "Now Playing" pane? It's a lot of back (double) clicking.
Also only when adding podcasts, the art is blurry, but once it's added, the resolution looks fine.
I would pay for this if it were easier/natural to use.
24 October 2013
Overall the app is great, does almost everything a podcast app should and it looks good doing it! Would love to see the developer continue to add features.
11 October 2013
Over all this app has done exactly what I wanted, play podcasts. It has crashed once or twice so it's not "perfect" but those times have been few and far between so over all I am very happy wit this app.
Bear
8 October 2013
When doing a search, I wasn't able to view all of the matching podcasts. It doesn't have an integrated player either. With some more work, this could become a first-class podcast app.
2 August 2013
I'm coming to this app after having gotten used to Podcast Addict on Android, which has far more features, but this app is good at what it does. What I'd love to see is an integrated player that will play files downloaded by the app, and an integrated RSS reader would seal the deal.
25 June 2013
Has all the NPR shows I love.
23 June 2013
Finally. A podcaster since PushPod that lets you subscribe and download podcasts for off-line viewing. A few cosmetic gripes (download status, for one, is quite annoying when it shows the notes from the podcast -- multiple downloads).... but I just wanted a podcast downloader and it fit the bill. Some improvements to the UI and it would get 4 stars.
17 June 2013
These days you can send your software off to India to get it tested for really cheap. but I guess even that was too much for this app cuz this thing crashes just trying to subscribe to a podcast.
So for those who are able to subscribe and crashes playing video, that's one step more than I got.
WAY too much garbage on Windows 8 Store.
I'm guessing like 60-70%
11 May 2013
my first issue is that the program stops every 10 min. no explanation.
second, why are some commands so hard to find. no delete button where one would be nice. swiping up to find the delete button makes this very frustrating when half of all swipe ups don't register.
third, tiles with better explanations of show would be helpful.
fourth, a comprehensive list of all current downloaded podcasts would help a lot. I had to go out of the program to the windows program to delete a few podcasts.
7 May 2013
What Is the sense of the 3/4 view if you don't use it. Can use video in the multipurpose snapview
4 May 2013
Nice interface. Ok at updating podcasts, but no real indication it is happening until the new podcasts appear a few minutes later.
Worst of all.. Troubling tendency to crash during playback while streaming... and does not retain place so when you restart, takes you to beginning.
27 April 2013
I had no problems using the trial version of this app and I liked it so much I decided to pay for it. Great app. Nice work by the developer. 👍
19 April 2013
There doesn't seem to be a way to force the app to sync. Playlist looks like it could be handy, but the it doesn't remember where you were in the playlist if you pause or navigate elsewhere in the app. Doesn't show which item in the playlist is actually playing. Back to the Zune software for now.
Update 4/18: Still buggy. Says trial version only good for 3 podcasts. I have one. Won't let me subscribe to a second. Not paying for a buggy app.
18 April 2013
Ok for getting podcasts. Purging old podcasts not easy. Don't care for playback for episodes that are downloaded. Whole management process for downloaded content needs work.
8 April 2013
Works great for me so far... for the most part. I am able to find the podcasts I am looking for quite easily, it downloads them, can see episodes in easy format. Major thing is it keeps crashing when I go to Preferences, which is not fun...
3 April 2013
I chose this program because it downloads files to my local music directory so that I can listen to podcasts with WMP. (Excellent dev choice)
This app does have some stability issues. It crashes rather a lot.
