Great alternative to Google Earth. You can view a classic "cartoon" globe or satellite image globe. You can also set it to "road map" view. When you zoom in, it changes from a globe to a flat map. If you tap a country, data pops up in a side bar showing population, area, currency, religions, etc. If you swipe down from the top, you can open the measure tool and get distances. The app uses the Bing maps database. I must deduct 1 star, though, because it appears you can't search for a place and go there. If that's possible, I can't figure out how to do it. It's still worth the small price, though.

Includes some cool features like the ability to see the local time and weather for any city in the world but the touchscreen controls are poorly implemented, e.g. tap the map and it may display the country info or it may zoom in or it may move the map. Have found one inaccuracy so far where Mt. Shasta in far northern CA is listed as 4137m at one zoom but 4317 at another (according to the US Geodetic Survey, the true elevation is 4322m). Also, it seems odd that some measurements are in feet while others are in meters. Most frustrating, however, is that it frequently crashes especially when zooming in and out of Bing maps. National-level facts and such are very good and complete. The navigation is a piece of cake. Below a certain zoom level it goes to Bing maps which in my experience is a much smoother experience than Google maps. The one thing that REALLY bugs me about this is when you select a city (say...Rochester, NY), and choose the "city" tab on the right side, one prominently displayed item is "Nearby Cities". At least for US cities, this is horrible. It lists Terre Haute (Indiana) as 76 miles away... it's actually several hundred. Calais (France?) listed as something like 15 miles away... I tested this on a couple of locations in Canada and it seemed to work much better there...for some reason the US data is awful in this regard.

I'm a student and the flexibility and detail of this utility is awesome! No need to haul around any other maps or books.

Gorgeous and works flawlessly. Wonderful way to explore our world!

Our home "city" is called Lafitte, Louisiana, but the globe is certain we live in what they call Franklin, Louisiana, a place that does not exist. Our global position is 29.7353, -91.5126, and that is LAFITTE, LOUISIANA, NOT FRANKLIN!!! It makes me wonder how inaccurate the rest of it is. Can we trust this map for anything but major cities? Your guess is as good as mine.

Renders the whole application useless. Stole my money.
